Access Statement
for The Gate House B&B, Middleton Cheney, Banbury
Introduction
We aim to cater for the needs of all visitors to our
home, but realise that the restrictions of 18th century architecture may
render our property unsuitable for some. The following statement is a
summary of our provision and we hope that this will enable you to decide
if we can supply suitable accommodation for your needs. Please contact
us with any specific queries and we will endeavour to help.
Please note smoking is not permitted in the house but
you may smoke in the courtyard.
Pre-Arrival
• There is a bus stop near the front of the house and there is a frequent
bus service
• The main train
station is 10 minutes away by car
• Local taxis are
available and we can make a booking for you
• Welcome pack
and menus can be provided in large print by prior arrangement
• Sorry, we have
no provision for pets

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities
• Upon arrival at the property there is parking on tarmac to the right of
the front door or on gravel to the left
• No marked
parking bays but there is room for all cars
• There is a
slight slope up from the road and a paved area outside the front door
separates the gravel from the tarmac surfaces
• We can assist
guests with luggage
Main Entrance & Reception
• The front door has an 8cm threshold and is 77cm wide
• The front door
is always locked but there is a bell push to the left hand side of the
door
• On entry the
wooden floor has a 65cm wide strip of coir matting running to the entry
to the rest of the house. This door is 74cm wide
Public Areas - General (Internal)
• The
breakfast/sitting room is on the ground floor
• The covering on
stairs and upstairs landing is short pile carpet

All
bedrooms are on the first floor with doors adjacent to the top of the
stairs
• There are 12
stairs leading to the first floor
• The stairs are
20cm high, 23cm deep, 85cm wide
• There is a hand
rail on the left side from top to bottom
• There is a 4cm
step on the landing outside the private bathroom.
Public Areas - WC
• Bedrooms are en
suite/private bathroom but no public WC is available
Breakfast/Sitting room
• Breakfast is
served in the breakfast/sitting room on the ground floor. There are no
steps
• Furniture is
flexible and can be moved on request
• Circular tables
have a central pedestal with an underspace 74cm high, radius of 38cm.
Open chairs have a seat height of 56cm
• We do not play
background music in any area of the B&B
Laundry
• Laundry and ironing services are available on request
Outdoor Facilities
•
There is a
sitting area in our courtyard garden This is the only part of the
premises where smoking is permitted. There is a 12cm step and 10cm
threshold out into the courtyard
• The courtyard
slopes gently away from the house The surface is concrete, riven with
small drainage channels
Bedroom 1 (en-suite) – First floor
• Door width 72cm

far side of the bed narrows to 65cm at one point, although there is 2
metres of clear space to the right hand side

working area with clear under-space: 73cm high, 70 cm wide and 50cm deep

fridge, hair dryer, fan, beverage facilities

is 80cm wide to two sides with curved front and sliding doors opening to
36cm. The shower threshold is 17cm high

along its length

• The pedestal
basin is curved at the front and has clear underspace.
It is 80cm high
• The toilet can
only be approached from the front.
The toilet is 43cm high

Additional Information
• Mobile phone reception depends on your network but most are available
within the bedrooms
• In the unlikely
event of a fire, the fire alarm will sound continuously. If you require
assistance with evacuation from the premises, please notify us on
arrival and we will ensure you are evacuated safely. e.g. In the case of
a hearing impairment
• We operate a
no-smoking policy. However, smoking is permitted in the courtyard
• Middleton Cheney offers
2 pubs,
a newsagent, a convenience store incorporating the post office, a
pharmacy, 2 take-away food establishments and a golf club
• Local
pub food is available within 5 minutes’ walk. Banbury (10 minutes’
drive) offers cuisine to suit all tastes. Alternatively, those who
prefer take-out food are free to utilise our breakfast/dining room. No
food in the rooms please
